LESA
Low Energy Surface Alteration

Product Uses

LESA is an extremely durable semi-permanent release well suited for composites and solid surfacing. LESA imparts high gloss with medium slip and cures completely at room temperatures.

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation:
The mold should be free of dirt, wax, oil, or any other foreign material. If the mold has had a release agent applied prior to applying LESA, we recommend using 3M Finesse-it Part No -05928 mild grit compound to cut any remaining release agent off. Then use KadKlad AllKleen after compounding to remove all contaminants from surface.

Application:
Apply a liberal amount of material to a clean dry 100% cotton applicator cloth. Coat an area of convenient size (approx 2-3 sq. ft.) and let stand for 3-5 minutes. Do Not go back through the wet film with cloth once it has been laid in place. Disturbing film will distort the curing. Using a clean, dry, white 100% cotton cloth, buff to a high gloss. When starting a new area, reapply more release agent to the applicator cloth. Overlap slightly onto previously buffed area as each new section is done. Continue in this fashion until entire mold is covered. Two coats will ensure that any areas inadvertently missed the first time are coated with release agent. If used on a new mold add one additional coating until you get a seasoned effect to your mold. Mold can be place in production immediately after last application of release. If production requirements allow, an overnight cure will substantially increase the number of pulls per mold before a touch up is required.

Touch up:
Once the mold is in production the release film will eventually begin to wear. To touch-up a mold just wipe it out with a clean dry cloth and reapply LESA as stated above.

Application Tips:
To avoid smear marks in the film ensure that the film is not disturbed during the curing process before buffing. If smears develop, this can be corrected by wiping down the surface with AllKleen and reapplying a new coat of release.

If you see streaks or stains after buffing, this means that you have waited too long to buff, causing “freeze” marks to appear. To correct this, wipe down the surface with Kadko AllKleen and reapply LESA. If the film is fully cured, use 3M Finesse-it Part No -05928 or other silicone-free buffing compound, then AllKleen and reapply LESA.
