R2X3 Semi-Permanent Mold Release
Spend more time in production and less time in prep with KADKLAD R2X3 . With only two coats needed and no sealer, you will be back in production while your competition is applying up to seven coats of release plus sealer. Fewer coats mean you spend less on material and save money on labor. Wouldn't you rather be molding than prepping?
KADKLAD R2X3 Mold Release has several unique properties:
- Universal Release Agent.
- Cures at room temperature with extraordinary adhesion to substrates.
- Only two coats needed and no sealer required.
- Longer cycles between applications.
- Flawless release reduces mold stress- extending mold life.
- Our premium release leaves no styrene build-up.
- High gloss finish.
- High slip with no pre-release.
- Withstands temperatures up to 900 ° F.
- No material transfer to parts.
- Maximum Coverage- 1 gallon covers 1800-2000 SqFt.
KADKLAD R2X3 will protect your mold from wear and damage. The resulting costs are much lower than any other system because of less labor and lack of mold repairs. Application Instructions
Surface Preparation:
The mold must be 100% free of dirt, wax, oil, or any other foreign material . We recommend using a mild grit compound such as 3M's Finesse-It followed by KADKLAD AllKleen to ensure a contaminant-free mold. If prepping a new mold, compounding may be omitted.
Application:
SATURATE a 100% cotton applicator cloth with release, and apply a heavy coat in a back and forth (not circular) motion. Cover a working area of approximately 2-3 sq. feet and let stand for 3-5 minutes. During this time, you will see the film flow and level, and as the film builds, it will take on a matte appearance. At the end of 3-5 minutes, buff to a high gloss using a 100% cotton buffing cloth.
When starting a new area, re-saturate applicator cloth and overlap each new section. Continue in this fashion until the entire mold is covered.
Two coats will ensure that any areas missed the first time are coated with release agent. Allow a minimum of 10 minutes between coatings. On a new mold, apply a third coat until the mold has a seasoned effect. Mold can be placed in production after the last application of release. If production requirements allow, an overnight cure will substantially increase the number of pulls possible before a touch up is required.
Touch-up:
Once the mold is in production, the release film will eventually begin to wear. To touch-up a mold simply wipe it out with a clean dry cloth and reapply R2X3 as stated above.
Application Tips:
- As with any solvent-based product, use only white, 100% cotton cloths to prevent solvents from attacking materials or dyes.
- If release is left too long in place before buffing and staining appears, rewet surface with release, wait 2-5 minutes, and buff.
- This material must be applied at room temperature- it should not be applied to hot molds.
- Solvent-based releases can dissolve contaminants trapped in the pores of a mold, bringing them to the surface and fouling the release film. If you experience long buff times or a hazing in the film during buffing, the release has become contaminated. Repeat surface prep and reapply.
